19. Sawing a Bar

1. When you are sawing through a bar, you should pour oil on it: this will help the work and deaden the sound. And if a sponge is fastened to the saw and the bar, the sound will be much less distinct. I could mention many other similar devices, but must now pass on.

 

 

 

19. Μοχλοῦ πρίσις

1. Διαπρίοντα δὲ μοχλὸν ἔλαιον ἐπιχεῖν: θᾶσσον γὰρ καὶ ἀψοφητὶ μᾶλλον πρισθήσεται. ἐὰν δὲ καὶ σπόγγος ἐπί τε τὸν πρίονα καὶ τὸν μοχλὸν ἐπιδεθῇ, πολλῷ κωφότερος ὁ ψόφος ἔσται. πολλὰ δ̓ ἄν τις καὶ ἄλλα ὁμότροπα τούτοις γράψαι. ἀλλὰ ταῦτα μὲν παρετέον.
